Privacy

This page describes what caseharvester.org collects about visitors, which is very little, and what happens to it. It covers this website. For how we handle the personal information of people who appear in Maryland court records, see our data privacy policy.

What we don't do

We run no analytics and no trackers. There are no advertising pixels, no social media embeds, no third-party cookies, and no fingerprinting. The site works without accepting any cookies.

If you use the web app, your browser saves your access token on your own device so you stay signed in. That is not a cookie, and it never reaches anyone else.

Fonts

The customer application serves its typefaces directly from caseharvester.org and makes no font requests to a third party. The public site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, and the API documentation loads fonts from Scalar, the tool that renders it. When your browser visits those surfaces, it sends the applicable font provider your IP address and standard request metadata. We use these services only to deliver fonts. We do not sell visitor data or share it for advertising or analytics.

Server logs

Our servers keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, to operate and secure the service, as almost every web server does. Logs are deleted after 30 days. We look at logs to debug problems and investigate abuse, and for no other purpose.

The access request form

When you submit the request form, we collect the fields on it, including your name, email, affiliation, and a description of your work. Submissions are stored in our own database, on infrastructure we operate, and are visible only to us. We keep a submission while your request or access is active, and for three years after your access ends or your request is declined. If we approve your request, the purpose you described becomes the permitted purpose in your personalized data-use agreement. We use the rest to review and respond to your request.

Database users

If you are granted database access, your queries are logged. We use those logs to enforce the data-use agreement and to keep the service secure, and we keep them confidential, as the agreement states. Query logs are kept for the length of your license plus one year.

Email

If you email us, we keep the correspondence. Mail for caseharvester.org is handled by AgentMail, which processes and stores messages on our behalf. We use correspondence to respond to you and to operate the service, and we do not share it with anyone else.

Changes & contact

If this policy changes, we will update this page and note the date. Questions: [email protected].
